Anthemism
Anthemism is a political philosophy inspired by Ayn Rand’s novella Anthem. It advocates shifting efforts away from reforming existing statist countries and toward founding a sovereign laissez-faire capitalist state consistent with Objectivist principles. Anthemism.org hosts articles, a library, forum discussion, and media on these themes.
Anthem Liberty Foundation
Anthem Liberty Foundation (ALF) is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing research and public education on individual rights, political philosophy, and the institutional foundations of free societies.
The Foundation conducts original research, historical analysis, and educational publications that explore how societies can better protect liberty, voluntary cooperation, and the rule of law.
Mission
Our mission is to improve public understanding of the principles and institutions that enable human freedom to flourish.
We pursue this mission by:
- Conducting original research and publishing analytical articles.
- Studying historical and contemporary institutional experiments.
- Maintaining educational resources for students, researchers, and the public.
- Encouraging informed discussion of political philosophy and institutional design.

How They Relate
Anthem Liberty Foundation and the Anthemism community are separate entities. The Foundation is a nonprofit research and educational organization. Anthemism is a broader philosophical community and public discussion forum. This website presents both the Foundation’s research publications and content created by the broader Anthemism community on liberty, institutional design, and political philosophy.
Research articles published by the Foundation are labeled Research Article and attributed to Anthem Liberty Foundation. Other articles, discussions, and community materials represent the broader Anthemism community and do not necessarily represent the views of the Foundation.
The Foundation maintains its own governance, finances, and editorial responsibility for its research publications.
From The Founder
My name is Boris Reitman. In my twenties, I stumbled upon Atlas Shrugged after three people recommended it to me. One was a tech guy, another was a free spirited young woman who wrote poetry, and another was a sophisticated woman executive. I found it so surprising that such different types of people could like the same book, that I decided to read it out of curiosity. I finished it in a month, but it took me a few years to digest it. I thought about starting a Galt’s Gulch-like society, but there was, and still is, no technological way to hide it, as it was done in the novel.
Most American Objectivists think that the way forward is to try to change the United States for the better, by spreading ideas through books, media and private education. I don’t disagree, but in such a large country the process could take hundreds of years. I celebrate these efforts, but at a distance. I think it’s better to try to create a new country. It sounds crazy, but it is not impossible. In the last 100 years, several new countries have been created.
If you are frustrated with how things are, I invite you to get onboard with Anthemism. If we don’t take action, our children will face the same situation we are in once they reach maturity, and the cycle will repeat.
